2009 Eclipse
This week's image is of course en eclipse picture, from Paul Evans, IAA:
"Just got back from China yesterday having had a fantastic trip - amazing country, one wonders where it's going next! Main purpose was of course to see the Total Solar Eclipse which I did with just one little annoyance - there was a 10 minute period of total cloud cover which included the 5mins 40secs of totality - how unlucky was that!! We did experience the most eerie darkness - far darker than any totality I've experienced before, and we witnessed the Moon's shadow racing across the sky at 2000mph or thereabouts which I have on video - I haven't even taken that out of the camera yet.
I have a gallery containing 30 shots of the in and out phases of the eclipse - I think the use of cloud as a filter makes for more atmospheric images - only in some of the later phases did I have to use a Baader filter as the cloud thinned out too much.... go here to see .
And am enclosing my favourite shot of the sequence - I thought I'd missed it - I was talking to someone and looked up to see the aircraft - fortunately I had my cable release in my hand and quickly hit the button!"
Thank you very much indeed, Paul, what an amazing experience you had!
Have yo travelled to Asia this year to see the eclipse and got some pictures you'd like to share? Send us your shots!
