Dr Miruna Popescu has over ten years of experience as a researcher in solar physics. Before coming to the Armagh Observatory in 2002, she has worked at the Torino Astronomical Observatory, the Astronomical Institute of the Romanian Academy and the National Solar Observatory in Tucson. 

Miruna's areas of interest include solar cycles, coronal holes and the origins of the solar wind. She has worked extensively with data from the SUMER spectrograph onboard the SoHO spacecraft. Miruna has always been involved in outreach projects throughout her scientific career and she is an accredited Science and Engineering Ambassador and a Sun|trek ‘solar guide’.

Miruna is also passionate about art and in her astro-paintings she aims to show people the beauty of the Universe.
