Astronomy Weekend at Newgrange

This coming weekend (Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August) there is a special programme of activities to accompany the International Year of Astronomy "From Earth to the Universe" exhibition on display at the Bru na Boinne visitor centre (Newgrange, Ireland's most popular touristic site). There will be astronomers to talk to, the Sun in 3-D, telescope displays, solar imaging if clear, astro-art fun workshops run by Dr Miruna Popescu, and various other fun and interactive exhibits, all these for free. 

The main exhibition, on display as part of the Heritge Week in Newgrange, will remain there for another two weeks, till Sunday 13 September. The exhibition is put together by the Irish Astronomical Association (IAA) in conjunction with Armagh Observatory and the Irish node for the International Year of Astronomy 2009. It comprises of an impressive collection of some of the best astronomy images ever taken. 

This special IYA event is made possible with support from the Office of Public works (OPW), Ireland’s science promotion programme Discover Science and Engineering (DSE), Northern Ireland's Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL), the Armagh Observatory and NUI Galway

On Sunday 30 August the guided tours of Newgrange and Knowth are free. Come as early as you can, as places fill up very fast, and take part in the special astronomy activities while waiting for your turn!
