
A sell out show at the exhibit with astronomy art by children from four schools across Cork City, Scoil na Croise Naofa, Mahon, Scoil Padre Pio, Churchfield, St. Mary’s on the Hill N.S., Knocknaheeny and North Presentation Primary School, Blackpool, raised money to enable the purchase of telescopes and binoculars, which benefited five primary schools (Olarash, Mlimani, Enguiki, Arkatan and Lashaine) from the Arusha region within the Monduli District in Tanzania, (one of the largest regions inhabited by the Maasai tribe).
The project enabled the Tanzanian and Cork children acquire basic knowledge about the sky and the Universe and may allow them to consider careers in science.
The project is managed by (Universe Awareness) an international outreach activity that inspires young disadvantaged children with the beauty and grandeur of the Universe.
Capture the Cosmos art and images from Tanzania and Cork will hang at from October 2009 in celebration of Universe Awareness and the creativity of all children.
